LIS Post Hurricane Dorian Update - Classes starting Monday September 16th!
To all our friends and supporters locally and across the world, we want you to know that Lucaya International School is resilient and faithful to our mission in the face of the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.
The LIS school campus was severly flooded and also sustained substantial damage in all classrooms. Many of our families and staff have been displaced and also lost loved ones.
Getting our students back into classes with their teachers and classmates is our priority. Our IB1 year 12 and IB2 year 13 started classes on Monday September 9th in a private home and the students were excited to see one another and their teachers. Our year 9, 10 and 11 students will start classes on Monday September 16th on campus in the IB building - the only building that did not flood with sea water from the north shore of the island. Early Childhood Department, Primary and MIddle School will start classes on Tuesday September 17th off campus at the Ocean Reef Yacht Club & Resort in corporate meeting rooms.
Restoring a sense of normalcy for our students and getting the campus up and running has been our main focus and we are very hopeful that we will all be back together on the LIS campus very soon!
LIS students, teachers and families are also engaged in many search, rescue, feeding and cleanup efforts across the island and demonstrating our commitment to global citizenship. We are a strong community and proud of our efforts in the face of unbelievable hardship...every day we are making a difference!
